On July 10, 2019, Ms. Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, held a roundtable meeting with Chinese corporate leaders at the China Hotel. Mr. Zhang Tianzhu, director of Institute of Agricultural Planning Science, professor of China Agricultural University, and chief consultant of Zhongnong Futong, was invited to attend the meeting.
China has become Malaysia's largest trading partner for 10 consecutive years. According to data provided by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the total bilateral trade between Malaysia and China reached RM318.81 billion in 2018, an increase of 8.1% compared with 2017.
During the meeting, Ms. Azizah said that Malaysia government would further strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and China, and promote the two countries to continue to expand strategic cooperation in politics, trade, investment, women's affairs, agriculture, education, natural disaster management, tourism, culture and other fields. She also hoped that Chinese enterprises would play an important role in this process.
After meeting, Mr. Zhang was invited to have in-depth exchanges with Mr. Shen Zhiqin, deputy minister from Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Malaysia, and Mr. Zukepli, minister of Malaysian Embassy in China.
