On May 16th, 2020, CAU Futong, the commercial service platform under China Agriculture University, organized a webinar about urban agriculture and horticulture technology with international speakers and a global audience.
The Urban Agriculture and Horticulture Technology Seminar is an annual event that CAU Futong has organized in Beijing since 2010. Because of the current Covid-19 situation, traveling is highly restricted. In these circumstances, Futong decided to organize its first webinar about urban agriculture and horticulture technology.
Apart from several domestic speakers, Mrs. Adri Bom-Lemstra, Vice-governor at Province of Zuid-Holland and Chairwoman of the Dutch Greenport Association was invited to deliver a keynote speech via video at the opening ceremony of the webinar.
In her speech, Mrs. Bom-Lemstra introduced the Dutch horticulture sector in general, she was glad that the cooperation between China and the Netherlands in the field of horticulture made significant progresses in the last few years, and Chinese companies like Futong offer a great contribution to the cooperation.
Several sub-sessions were organized targeted at a professional audience, the business network and partners of Futong. In one of these sessions, Mrs. Miranda van den Ende, Managing Director of TomatoWorld in Westland, introduced TomatoWorld, the concept of feeding and greening the megacity and Dutch Greenport 3.0 in a video presentation.
ToamtoWorld is a Dutch foundation with top companies in the sector of horticulture, and aims to share Dutch knowledge, technologies and sustainable cultivation methods with global visitors. CAU Futong was granted the “Golden member” status of TomatoWorld since end of last year. This is the first time that a Chinese horticultural company plays a major role in a mainstream horticultural organization in the Netherlands.
Hoogendoorn and CODEMA, the other two members of TomatoWorld also delivered two online presentations about the Let’s Grow system and automation in greenhouses in another sub-session. Other members such as Van der Knaap, De Ruiter Seeds, Syngenta and BASF provided their promotion video and left contact info at the online matchmaking platform.
According to a third-party statistical overview, around 500 thousand online guests participated the webinar.
